Holbrook Camp Meeting
2415 Holbrook Campground Road
One Mile off Highway 20
Between Cumming and Canton, Ga.
In Cherokee County
It all began in 1839 when Jessie C. Holbrook received 40
acres of land for shoeing a horse. Mr. Holbrook sold the land for $20
to local
Methodist for the purpose of having camp meetings. There were
once four camp-meeting sites in Cherokee County, but by the 1930's only the Holbrook Campground survived . Attendance was estimated as high as 6,000 in
the early 20th century.
The current historic arbor was built in 1890 using some of the materials from the earlier structures, Now 75 tents (cabins) surround the arbor as descendents of those first pioneers as well as new residents experience the presence of God on this holy ground (Holbrook Campground History).
As in the past, great emphasis is placed on the spiritual life of Holbrook. Camp Meeting is a time for spiritual renewal for Christians and salvation for sinners.
May the Heritage of Our Past Strengthen Our Future
